fights, injuries and death. Martin canonically can hold his own in a fight (The Voice of God said so). I am down for these options, given that plotting is done beforehand. He's not likely to break out into a bar fight unprompted, but if he has a reason for it, he will.
Spoiler for Season 5: He loses a lot of sweet boy points in this season. Yes, they essentially honeymoon in the Apocalypse, but he was such a dick to John. He actively encourages John to smite down avatars during their trek to the Penopticon (Even the more neutral Oliver Banks, primarily due to jealousy). When John smites Helen (The Distortion), this little hypocrite was sad about it because she acted like their friend (until she tried trapping John).
romance and shipping. Yes, he's in love with John, but I am never going to be a solo-ship kind of girl. I'm more than happy to explore non-canonical ships (We know that Michael/Martin Fic, right? Mercy me). Crosscanon welcome! I'd find it interesting to see how something would develop between Martin and someone out of mutual affection and not trauma.
