[ If texts weren't such a useful way to send notes about the weirdness of their new home, Martin's contributions would gravitate toward affection, nitpicking John into coming to bed, you ridiculous man, and cat memes. Tonight, Martin is tied up on an odd job -- so it doesn't shock him to see a text from John at said ungodly hour. He's still going to roll his eyes (fondly, thank you) when it doesn't seem to be an emergency. Always a plus. ]
Alright, you've got my attention. How far are you wanting to head out this time?
[ Martin actually kind of enjoys the road trips, even if he's pretty sure this one will be more or less 'business' over pleasure. He knows what he signed up for. ]
( oh, those themes certainly do appear on occasion in the stream-of-consciousness that was their text record; it's just a shame that the more dire and/or creepy aspects of living in this place often fight for priority. even that luxury resort that had showed up in the middle of nowhere had ended up being just as ominously mysterious as it'd been relaxing (if not more...). )
That depends. How far out from Panorama were you when you picked up your "hitchhiker?"
Already tried it. Got an hour out and had to turn around. I did try to push him out but that obviously didn't work.
[ And he had. Tried to push him out. It had almost worked, but fuzzy headed or not, his other half is stubborn. Every day, he feels a little more real. It's nice. He doesn't even mind working. His hitchhiker should be grateful for the break. ]
There was a lot of fog, though. I recognize the irony.

That was you trying it alone, though. If we worked together, things would likely be different.
( a brief pause. )
Well, that's convenient. I believe that's around the place I picked up mine as well.
( though, for john, the irony had been less in the endless fog and more in the sweeping gaze of a judgmental, metaphorical eye. that "guardian" had been far more violent than his patron and its ilk tended to be, however. )

So? Willing to give it another shot?
